Official Statement:
Hello everyone, I'm @BenWAGMI. It's been a long time since I last appeared on Twitter, and I'm also surprised to be appearing in this way.
Yesterday, a conflict erupted between @faustliu1997 and @blapta, and as their friend, this matter has greatly troubled me. It has not only affected me personally, but also brought some negative impact to the Geek Web3 and the entire industry. I sincerely apologize for this.
Faust was the original founder of Geek Web3, but Geek is currently a small team of 6 people, and his personal actions do not represent the entire team. Since June of this year, I have gradually taken the helm of Geek Web3. During this period, I did find some issues, such as the personal use permissions of the official account, operational management, and Faust's style of doing things. However, I did not correct them in time, which led to this incident, and I deeply regret it.
Faust is a person with both obvious strengths and weaknesses, and the polarization is severe. He is very dedicated when researching things he is interested in and works very hard in content output, showing a craftsman spirit. However, Faust's problem is that he often speaks without considering others' feelings and occasionally says things that make people uncomfortable (perhaps unintentionally); coupled with his poor interpersonal skills, some minor frictions can easily escalate.
In response to this incident, we have had in-depth discussions internally and reached the following decisions:
Faust will no longer have the publishing permissions for official Twitter, WeChat public account, and other media channels.
He will no longer participate in team decisions and will only remain as an editor for observation.
In this incident, he will publicly admit the parts where he made mistakes and will make efforts to clarify any misunderstandings.
His personal conflicts with others, although private matters, we hope can be resolved and not escalate to public matters.
Faust must seriously reflect, and if similar incidents affect the team again, he will have to leave.
Today, I had a long conversation with Faust, and he also realized his shortcomings with a very sincere attitude.
Faust also wants to clarify some misunderstandings personally, and he will make some explanations on his personal Twitter. At the same time, he also hopes to restart good relationships with Ben77 and friends who had friction with him before, clarify any misunderstandings, and apologize for any mistakes. I also earnestly request friends who had conflicts with him before to forgive him and observe his subsequent behavior. Sometimes in the world, it is indeed the case that you don't really know someone until you have a conflict, and sometimes taking a step back or looking from a different perspective, you may find that a thing or a person is not as bad as you initially thought. Of course, this is something that Faust may need to learn and understand more.
In addition, those who criticize him should also calm down and consider whether Faust is completely without merit. Has the content he produced in the past been valuable? He has indeed offended many people, but for his positive contributions, perhaps everyone should also moderately acknowledge them.
Apart from the disputes he personally caused, I have also heard some judgments about Geek Web3, and I need to respond briefly:
Some people say "Geek Web3 and BitLayer had a falling out a long time ago," and I need to clarify: we have always maintained a good cooperative relationship with BitLayer and have had very constructive discussions in the BTC ecosystem. Yesterday afternoon, we were still discussing many things, and @0xkevinhe from BitLayer can attest to this.
"Geek Web3 is just a paid writer." Geek Web3, as a research and media institution, has been able to develop to this day based on hardcore technical analysis and industry insights. Readers who have read our articles know that we never write about inexplicable projects, and in fact, we have rejected many of them. If the project itself is of high quality and there are many points to interpret, then cooperation and promotion to readers is a win-win situation. However, commercialization more or less carries original sin and bias, and we accept such criticism candidly.
Geek Web3 is a nascent Web3 industry research and media institution. In the process of growing, we will inevitably experience various challenges and make mistakes, and I am very grateful to those friends who have always provided criticism and suggestions to us. Your criticism is our driving force to move forward, and we will continue to strive to emulate those outstanding practitioners. We will also do our best to provide more positive energy for the industry and work together to create a good Web3 environment.
