Reasons for the Richness of Verbs in Northeast Dialect:

In 2012, I had a conversation with a professor of Manchu culture at Jilin University about why the Northeast dialect has such a rich and varied set of verbs.

It turns out that the Northeast dialect is greatly influenced by the Manchu language. The Manchu people are a fishing and hunting ethnic group, not engaged in agriculture, and their main food source comes from hunting. This requires a very rich vocabulary of verbs, as even slight differences in the posture, weight, or direction of an action necessitate a distinct verb. However, the Manchu language is quite lacking in nouns; for example, various types of steamed buns, such as baozi, mantou, da bing, and jiaozi, are all referred to as "mo" in Manchu. This inadequacy does not suit an agricultural civilization and the management of a state, which has led to the decline of the Manchu language despite emperors needing to learn it. After the reign of Qianlong, it became difficult for the banner people to continue using it. On the other hand, the Manchu language has a very rich vocabulary for animal names; for instance, there are over twenty different expressions for wild boar.
