I've been on Twitter for over four years, and this kind of thing happens almost every day. Many friends have been telling me that they didn't come to the crypto world to make three to five times their investment; they came to change their fate. Look at so-and-so, who was just like me, with only a few coins in their pocket, but now they've changed their fate. And look at that other person, who was always losing like me, but then hit the jackpot and went all in, and now they're free.

People are different, and fates are different. Indeed, there are many who have changed their fate in the crypto world. I remember something a neighbor told me when I was a child in 2010. He said:

"Look at all those domestic Mercedes and BMWs on the road, how tacky! Really wealthy people don’t drive these things. You see one every few days; they’re all just stupid nouveau riche."

I thought he was going to continue being cynical, but then he changed his tone and said:

"But don’t underestimate them; they have the capital to be tacky. Do you?"

At that time, my thought was, "I’m just an ordinary person, but I want to drive a Mercedes or BMW, even if it’s domestic." After that, I took some wrong turns to make money and tried shortcuts, but maybe it was bad luck or maybe it just wasn’t my time. What awaited me was more failure. I asked myself why others could thrive while I couldn’t even get a taste of success.

Later, I started to slow down, went back to working, and began learning again. I don’t know how many times I had to pay my credit card in installments, but I finally started to learn to ask why. Once I learned to ask why, I learned to always give myself an escape route. Of course, looking at it this way might seem like "giving up before the battle," but people are different, and I couldn’t be that calm, so I just did what I could.

After turning 30, I began to confront a question I had always ignored: I am just an ordinary person, as ordinary as it gets. In a game, I would be an NPC; in a comic, I would be a passerby. When I became aware of this, I stopped fantasizing about having a long-lost relative waiting for me to inherit a vast fortune, or being so handsome that a wealthy woman would notice me, or being a financial giant on TV who treats the stock market like an ATM.

The paths available to ordinary people are actually quite limited. How many people only realize this when they’ve lost everything? So, I started to learn actively. I learned to open a store on Taobao, and it did quite well. I learned to shoot short videos, and the views were decent. I learned to drive for Didi, and my income was manageable. These are all opportunities prepared for ordinary people.

My experience with running a Taobao store taught me about price differences. Within six months, I went from a red heart to four diamonds. Just when I thought this was my way to change my fate, I was wrong. The rapid development of e-commerce came more fiercely than I had imagined. While I was still immersed in sourcing goods from Qipu Road, others who were also sourcing from there had already started playing with their own brands, and my store's business took a nosedive.

Later, I started making short videos and shot seven or eight programs. At that time, editors from 56 were looking for me, but I was too fragile inside. Every episode of cooking could attract 180 different reasons for online insults. I didn’t understand that red and black are also red; I just thought I was sharing cooking experiences. Why was I being criticized for having a small kitchen? Why for adding too much sugar? Why for having a dirty pot? Why for trying to lighten the mood with humor? After being insulted for a while, I stopped, but this experience helped me navigate one challenge after another on Twitter. At least I didn’t give up on Twitter.

I also drove for Didi. My favorite was taking people to the airport because it paid well. But honestly, I was just a foolish person. In my time, there was already black technology; you didn’t need to pick up passengers; you could just use location software to make money. But I was afraid of getting my account banned and thought it wasn’t the right path, so I missed a wave of financial freedom. Looking back, isn’t it the same as the inscriptions and memes? But I don’t regret it because this is who I am. Whether I like it or not, this is me. I want to change, but a dog can’t change its habit of eating shit, so I accepted this part of myself and made peace with it.

Since I can’t be that smart and I don’t have that much courage, I decided to take steady steps. While others work eight hours a day, I work sixteen. While others have one job, I take on two. But does hard work really pay off? Maybe yes, maybe no. I’ve made money through hard work, but effort isn’t the main reason for making money; otherwise, there wouldn’t be so many poor people in the world.

Besides hard work, you also need to learn. When I realized that the paths available to ordinary people are few and that once missed, they are hard to chase, learning became the last resort for ordinary people. So, I stopped running my Taobao store, and I didn’t get discouraged. When I stopped making short videos, I didn’t get discouraged either. When I couldn’t drive for Didi anymore, I still didn’t get discouraged. I kept looking for what I could do and aimed to do what I was good at the best I could.

I kept struggling in the gaming industry, making sure not to fall behind, continuously learning new things. That’s just my nature; I have a certain resilience, but I’m not very bold. I enjoy comfort but fear high risks. I always think about escape routes when doing things. Without a high probability of success, I stay steady like an old dog. I won’t starve; I’ll just eat enough, maybe just three dishes and a soup, but it ensures that I stay at the table. Staying at the table for a long time, even a dog can become a legendary creature.
