A major expansion is reshaping how mainstream investors access markets. Crypto exchange Coinbase (Nasdaq: COIN) announced the launch of new trading capabilities on Dec. 17 that push stock trading and prediction markets directly into its core consumer app.
“Today, we launched several new products to usher in the future of finance on Coinbase,” the announcement states, adding:
We’re taking a major new step toward becoming the Everything Exchange – dramatically expanding the assets available to trade on Coinbase, including novel cryptocurrencies, stocks, perpetual futures, and prediction markets.
Coinbase explained how equities are being integrated directly into the platform: “You will now be able to buy, sell, and manage leading stocks and ETFs alongside your crypto portfolios – with USD or USDC – all within one Coinbase app and account. This integration is key to our Everything Exchange mission and simplifies portfolio management, allowing you to diversify your investments and access both traditional and digital assets all in one place.”
The rollout focuses on expanded access and scale, with Coinbase saying: “Traders will get zero-commission trading without the constraints of traditional market hours – trade your top stocks 24 hours a day, five days a week. We plan to add thousands of additional stocks over the coming months.”

On prediction markets, the release details:
You will soon be able to trade on the outcomes of real-world events like elections, sports, collectibles, and economic indicators, with prices of the event contracts determined by the collective trading activity of market participants.
“All market flow will come from Kalshi at launch,” Coinbase noted.
Later in the release, the company outlined longer-term infrastructure plans, stating: “We plan to launch Coinbase Tokenize, our new end-to-end institutional platform for tokenizing real-world assets.” Beyond equities and prediction markets, the rollout also includes simplified futures and perpetual futures trading, expanded Solana decentralized exchange access, general availability of Coinbase Business, the global launch of the Base App, early access to the AI-powered Coinbase Advisor, and continued expansion across payments, stablecoins, and developer tools. The initiatives reflect a broader effort to integrate traditional finance and crypto-native markets into a single financial platform.
