Every Saturday, I share a deep and good article with everyone:

This week: "There’s this deep mystery of what, actually, is this thing?: the philosopher inside Google DeepMind AI"

Author: Robert P Baird

Platform: The Guardian

Article link is at the end!

I highly recommend friends who are interested in AI or betting on AI investments to take a look; it is a very good in-depth character + thought essay.

The main reason for the recommendation is that it writes about the philosopher Iason Gabriel at Google DeepMind:

This combination is interesting; how someone with a background in political philosophy thinks in the cutting-edge AI laboratory about who AI should actually serve, obey, harm, and who decides its value boundaries.

The article begins with Gabriel's joining DeepMind in 2017.

At that time, he was almost one of the few philosophers who truly entered the front-line AI laboratory. Through his experiences, the article clarifies the two long-divided camps in the AI field: one side focuses on "loss of control, alignment, superintelligence risk," while the other side focuses on "bias, power, societal harm" in AI ethics.

So you can see that AI alignment is not simply about making machines "listen to people," but is a more complex four-way relationship: AI systems, users, developers, society.

If AI only serves developers, it may harm users; if AI only obeys users, it may harm society; if it only pursues technical optimization, it may ignore human value conflicts.

Additionally, the popularization of Agenty is definitely an irreversible trend; in the future, AI will no longer just output text but will act in the real world. This change will make ethics, responsibility, and power boundaries sharper.

For me, the biggest inspiration from this content is:

1️⃣ In the AI era, one should read more and think more

In the AI era, don't just chase new tools; tools are merely forms. What is truly important is whether you have your own "value hierarchy" and "decision boundaries."

Without this boundary, the stronger AI becomes, the more it will amplify your confusion.

2️⃣ Super individuals;

The super individuals of the future, in addition to mastering tools skillfully, must also be able to integrate AI into their judgment systems while knowing when not to allow AI to make decisions for them.

3️⃣ Investment inspiration;

I used to think that besides technology, the competition in AI was only about computing power.

It turns out that AI companies, Crypto projects, and platform-type products compete not just in technical parameters but in who controls the entry points, data, execution rights, value definition rights, and ethical decision-making power.

Whoever can decide "which side the system should favor" holds real power.

AI still has a long development path ahead; investments must be diversified, and one should not only focus on one aspect.
