But attendees of Friday’s 4-hour event, which brought together industry leaders, lawmakers, and high-ranking administration officials, left feeling generally positive about the conversations they had and optimistic that further clarity from the administration would follow. “The summit was clearly a way for this administration to welcome the industry with open arms,” former @CFTC Chair @giancarloMKTS, who had a seat at the roundtable, told me. “This was their way of saying, ‘You’ve been persecuted, and now we’re going to celebrate you.’” @bgarlinghouse, CEO of blockchain payments firm @Ripple, remarked on the stark contrast between the Trump and Biden administrations' approaches to crypto. "It's hard for me to wrap my head around the difference," he said. "The Democrats under Biden wanted us to go to the 'big house'; the Republicans under Trump invited us to the White House. The turnaround here is just incredible." Alongside Garlinghouse and Giancarlo were other leading industry figures, including @coinbase CEO @brian_armstrong, Bitcoin advocate and @MicroStrategy founder @saylor, @Gemini founders @tyler and @cameron, and @RobinhoodApp co-founder and CEO @vladtenev. His SEC Chair nominee, Paul Atkins, was not there. The confab was led by Sacks and Hines and took place in the White House State Dining Room, located in the East Wing of the residence. A casual reception took place before the roundtable where guests mingled with administration officials. Some, like Acting Comptroller of the Currency Rodney Hood, attended the reception but did not attend the roundtable.
