On the surface, the contract is being hacked, but behind it lies a deeper crisis of trust and property disputes. ZKsync is at a crossroads in the fate of the project. Recently, zkSync has once again attracted attention due to the attack on its aerial distribution contract, and its developer Matter Labs has been sued by its former owner BANKEX, Accusing its core members of misappropriating key Plasma code, privately founding Matter Labs after leaving, taking away the team, reusing GitHub code structure and demonstration content, suspected of intellectual property infringement and non compete violations. This lawsuit not only involves the founder and executives of Matter Labs, but also the investors and early advisors. As early as 2023, zkSync sparked controversy over the use of Polygon Plonky2's open-source module. Afterwards, due to attempting to register the "ZK" trademark, it was jointly boycotted by multiple projects within the ecosystem, exacerbating its image of "open source abuse". And just this month, the zkSync airdrop contract administrator account was attacked, and hackers stole 111 million unclaimed ZK tokens. The project team subsequently offered a bounty invitation of "10% return for peaceful resolution". A series of crises have led to a sharp decline in the activity of the zkSync ecosystem. According to data from DeFiLlama and Artemis, their active addresses, transaction volume, and fee income have all plummeted by over 90% from historical highs, indicating signs of decline in the core ecosystem. ZkSync, once regarded as the benchmark for ZK Rollup, is now deeply mired in the triple dilemma of public opinion, technology, and governance.
