Viewpoint: US politicians promoting Meme coins and regulatory agencies abandoning cryptocurrency lawsuits have fueled cryptocurrency crime activities

PANews

According to Cointelegraph, blockchain security experts ZachXBT and Taylor Monahan pointed out that the promotion of meme coins by US politicians and the abandonment of some cryptocurrency lawsuits by regulatory agencies have fueled cryptocurrency criminal activities. Data shows that in the first quarter of 2025, losses caused by hacker attacks, phishing scams, and runaway scams exceeded $2 billion. ZachXBT criticized the regulatory direction for being unfocused and failing to effectively crack down on behaviors such as undisclosed paid promotions. Monahan believes that the current low cost and lucrative profits of crime have led to a continuous influx of hackers and fraudsters into the field. Experts warn that without effective regulatory measures, this' crime super cycle 'may continue to worsen.
