Consensus: A small number of MetaMask users report 'abnormally high disk activity', a fix will be released soon

According to Cointelegraph, MetaMask developer Consensys has confirmed that it will urgently fix the issue of abnormal writing of browser extensions to the hard drive. Multiple users have reported that the plugin continues to write data in the background, up to 5MB per second, causing solid-state drives (SSDs) to write 500GB of data per day. The issue can be traced back to May 9th, when the user "Quanquan" reported that the unused MetaMask plugin wrote 100GB of data per day. On June 24th, user ripper31337 recorded the issue in detail, stating that a total of 25TB had been written in three months. A Consensus spokesperson acknowledged the existence of "abnormally high disk activity", mainly affecting users with excessive status data, and promised to fix it by reducing write frequency and optimizing data capture strategies. The latest feedback shows that as of July 17th, the vulnerability still exists. Some users claim that the plugin has lost 50% of its SSD lifespan. The MetaMask team responded again on July 19th, stating that the repair plan is currently underway.
