A scammer used AI audio to deepfake and steal $2 million in cryptocurrency from their wallet

According to a report by Golden Finance, scammers are using AI tools to steal cryptocurrency through deep forgery and wallet clearing. Decentralized Finance (DeFi) developer Joey Santoro said that one of his friends recently lost $2 million in a complex deepfake fraud. The fraudster used the audio deepfake of Paul Faecks, the founder of stablecoin blockchain Plasma, to promote consultant positions to Santoro's friends and lure the victim to open a file during a call, thereby obtaining their password and private key. Santoro warns users to isolate cryptocurrencies from daily devices as much as possible.
