With the upcoming Mina hard fork on the horizon, here’s a quick refresher on how the MIP process works. 👇 What is a MIP (Mina Improvement Proposal)? A MIP is a design document that can be submitted by anyone, outlining a change to the Mina Protocol. Community members are empowered to debate the proposal, followed by an on-chain vote. The process is transparent & decentralizes decision-making, giving the community a voice in how Mina evolves. Who are the participants? Most participants in the process come from the community and take on the following roles: ✏️ Authors –Write the MIP, advocate for it, and collect feedback. 🖍️ Editors – Ensure proposals follow the process & keep things moving. 🔎Advisory Group – Subject matter experts & stakeholders who weigh in (varies by MIP). ⚒️Dev Teams – Review specs & implement finalized MIPs. What are the stages an MIP goes through? The above participants help support the MIP to go from Idea → Finalization stage. 💡 Idea – Author shares proposal on Mina Research for community discussion. 📝 Draft – Submitted to GitHub, reviewed by MIP Editors for compliance. 🔍Review – Dev Teams, Community, and Advisory Group provide feedback on the MIP. ⏳Last call – The final two-week review window for a MIP before moving to Finalization. If any new high-impact issues are identified, the proposal moves back to the review stage. 🗳️On-chain Voting – The community votes for or against the proposal. ✅Finalization – Proposal is ready to be implemented if approved by the vote. MIPs can also end in the following states where they’re no longer pursued: 🛑Inactive – A MIP that’s been dormant for 1+ month. ↩️Withdrawn – Author withdraws the proposal.
