[Bitcoin Core Developer Claims Knots Node Operators Exaggerate Statistics]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, this week a Bitcoin Core developer erroneously claimed that nearly 40% of Knots nodes—Core's largest competitor—were double-counted, creating a false impression of its actual scale being exaggerated.
They cited technical criticisms regarding the number of reachable Knots nodes, accusing (before deleting many posts) that as many as 39% of nodes (1,758 out of 4,468) were double-counted due to a so-called 'Sybil attack,' thereby 'artificially inflating the number of Knots users.'
For context, the two most popular Bitcoin node software versions currently are: Bitcoin Core (accounting for approximately 80-88% dominance) and Knots (accounting for approximately 12-19% share). The specific percentages depend on the estimation method.
