[Base Protocol Lead: Coinbase Will Not Rush to Launch a Token, No Short-Term Timeline Announced] BlockBeats reported on October 3 that Jesse Pollak, the head of the Base protocol, stated during an appearance on the "Crypto Playbook" video podcast that the Base code is fully open-source and aspires to become a Linux-style multi-developer ecosystem. This is precisely the main reason why Coinbase is considering issuing a token on Base—to achieve token decentralization through aligned incentives. Last month, Coinbase began hinting at the concept of a token, which, if realized, would undoubtedly attract the attention of both developers and speculators. Pollak emphasized that Coinbase will not proceed hastily and has no plans to announce a timeline in the short term. He acknowledged that the history of token issuance is fraught with issues, often becoming a tool for project teams to profit at the expense of the ecosystem. In response, Coinbase is advancing cautiously while collaborating with projects on Base that issue tokens in a responsible manner (such as Aerodrome, which achieved a "completely fair launch"). "Tokens are unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution," Pollak noted.
