New York Democrats seem determined to fade into irrelevance. Democrats in NY spent 5 year trying to bad bitcoin mining because it was "bad for the environment". 22 peer reviewed papers and 8 independent reports later showing that Bitcoin mining has strong environmental benefits, that argument has been laid to rest. So they came up with a new reason not to like Bitcoin. Their new stated reason this time: "Bitcoin mining ...drives up electricity bills". Not only is this a fictitious claim, but a number of peer reviewed studies shows the exact opposite is true. The real reason I imagine is no more sophisticated than "Trump is for it, so we're against it". But being against Bitcoin mining in 2025 is like being against the Internet. The irony is that Bitcoin mining has been shown to keep electricity prices low in three ways - reducing wasted renewable energy curtailment fees - creating a more competitive demand response market - creating more revenue for the grid operator all while incentivizing renewable innovation, stabilizing the grid and improving energy security. Their stance against bitcoin already cost the Democrats the last election, and many Democrats know that and are now actively promoting policies that create a Bitcoin-friendly environment. But right now NY is letting them down badly.(Daniel Batten)
