Back in the day, whenever a new coin launched, I’d stay up all night reading the whitepaper, trying to figure out what groundbreaking innovation or next-gen ecosystem it was bringing. Now? After seeing so much, I’m completely numb. I’ve seen through it all. Coins that pump have good stories; those that don’t are just nonsense. All that talk about the metaverse changing the world, Web3 reshaping the future… the stories get more and more polished, but in the end, 99% of them turn into a mess. Honestly, those grand narratives are just fancy outfits for the market.
These days, when I trade crypto, I only look at three things: trends, liquidity, and sentiment. If the trend isn’t there and the market’s liquidity dries up, even the most hyped projects will be left exposed when the tide goes out—it’s just a matter of whether they die sooner or later. But when the trend kicks in, money from all over the world floods in, and the rising tide lifts all boats. Even if you hop on blindfolded, you’ll still get carried along.
So what’s the key? Liquidity. You’ve got to figure out where this wave of money is coming from—is it the central banks pumping it in, or some big institution leading the charge?
The real danger is figuring out where it’ll retreat to. Who’s cashing out quietly at the peak, and who’s left holding the bag?
What you need to do isn’t to buy into any captivating story, but to calmly ask yourself: which wave of liquidity am I riding right now? Can I get out safely before it recedes?
Don’t let those flashy narratives mess with your head. Focus on the flow of money, feel the sentiment, and ride the wave. Everything else is just noise!
And don’t kid yourself into thinking you’re an investor. Most people in this market, myself included, are just surfers—when the wave comes, you hop on; when it recedes, you bail. Don’t wait until the water’s drained and realize you’re stuck swirling in the toilet bowl—that’s when it really gets ugly.
