A few days ago, I talked about Ethereum Foundation core researcher Dankrad Feist leaving to join Tempo, and how he had previously taken on advisory roles like with Eigenlayer to 'make some extra cash.' Many people are confused and questioning why these folks, who are already so wealthy, still do this. Well, today, Ethereum client lead Péter Szilágyi revealed that his total income over six years since joining Ethereum from day one was $625,000. He also wrote a long post criticizing Ethereum for offering such low salaries to people who actually do the work. Honestly, I was shocked when I saw this number. This is one of Ethereum’s veteran contributors, and yet it’s basically the average annual salary of a regular programmer in Europe. People have often mentioned on Twitter that the Ethereum Foundation is known for its 'stingy culture.' Even the former chair Aya once proudly posted photos on Twitter of Foundation developers sleeping on the floor, praising their dedication.
So, it’s no surprise that these Ethereum Foundation researchers and developers are leaving one after another. We see the Foundation selling tokens every now and then, but where’s all that money going?
