[Trump Seeks $230 Million in Damages from U.S. Department of Justice: Claims Previous Investigations Caused Significant Harm]
BlockBeats News, October 22, according to The New York Times, former U.S. President Donald Trump has requested the U.S. Department of Justice to pay up to $230 million in compensation for the criminal investigations he faced before and after his first term in the White House. On Tuesday evening, Trump told reporters at the White House: 'Regarding all lawsuits... yes, they probably owe me a lot of money. Any decision by the Department of Justice to pay compensation must go through my approval, and it’s quite strange to decide how much to pay myself. In other words, have you ever encountered a situation where you need to decide how much to compensate yourself? I have indeed suffered significant harm, and any compensation I receive will be donated to charity.'
Trump has filed complaints related to the Department of Justice investigations through the "administrative claims process," which is typically a precursor to litigation. One of the claims, submitted in 2023, seeks compensation for the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and its possible connections to Trump’s campaign. Another claim, filed in mid-2024, alleges that the FBI’s search of his Mar-a-Lago estate and residence in 2022 violated Trump’s rights—the search was part of an investigation into his retention of classified government documents after his first term ended. Last week, during an event in the Oval Office, Trump stood alongside Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel and hinted at these claims.
