The sports metaverse platform Bitball has completed a $5 million A-round fundraising co-led by IntelligentCricket, a global leader in cricket analytics, and Neon Eight Group, a private equity group focused on sports whose portfolio includes MPS Data. This round brings Bitball’s total funding to $7 million, following a previous $2 million investment from BitFundX.
According to a statement from Bitball, the funds will fuel the expansion of its AI-driven sports gaming ecosystem, which leverages real-time sports data to enhance user interactivity and realism. IntelligentCricket and Neon Eight Group bring their extensive expertise and data resources to support Bitball’s mission of integrating live sports experiences into the Web3 metaverse.
Based in London, IntelligentCricket collaborates with over 20 major cricket clubs and serves a fan base of more than 500 million, providing advanced AI analytics to prominent leagues like the Indian cricket league.
Neon Eight Group, with reach spanning Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, brings years of experience investing in sports, media, data, and AI solutions, further strengthening Bitball’s vision to merge cutting-edge technology with fan engagement on a global scale.
Bitball plans to allocate the funds toward developing an AI-powered player system based on real-world sports data, alongside the creation of a 3D cricket game slated for launch in Q2 2025. This new game will harness live sports data to deliver an immersive, realistic gaming experience. “With the backing of IntelligentCricket and Neon Eight Group, we’re pushing the boundaries of sports gaming in the Web3 space,” said Bitball’s CEO in a statement. “Our vision is to combine the thrill of live sports with the interactivity of blockchain, creating a platform where fans can engage with their favorite sports in groundbreaking ways.”
Since launching in December 2023, Bitball has rolled out four Web3 sports games, reaching over 5 million registered users and securing the top spot in Arbitrum’s 30-day unique active wallets (UAW) rankings. Bitball’s $BALL token is scheduled for its Token Generation Event (TGE) in Q4 2024, opening further engagement opportunities within its ecosystem.
