According to the announcement from the foundation’s Protocol Security Research Team and the Ecosystem Funding Initiative, the Attackathon event will take place from Nov. 25, 2024, to Jan. 20, 2025, in collaboration with security platform Immunefi. This initiative, led by the foundation’s Protocol Security Research Team and Ecosystem Funding Initiative, invites security experts and auditing companies to bolster the network’s security.
Framed as a competitive and time-restricted endeavor, the event is structured to reveal critical vulnerabilities in Ethereum’s code. It begins with an educational phase, featuring live and recorded technical sessions provided by the Immunefi Academy. The foundation explains that these sessions are designed to prepare participants to thoroughly assess the protocol.
As the competition unfolds, participants will search for vulnerabilities under clearly defined rules, with reward amounts determined by the significance and compliance of their findings. At the end of the event, Immunefi will issue a report summarizing the findings and spotlighting standout participants.
The foundation has stated that these findings are expected to inform future improvements in Ethereum’s security. Several notable projects, such as Arbitrum, Wormhole, The Graph, GMX, and Base, have co-sponsored the event. Additionally, the Ethereum Foundation has announced vacancies for security engineers on its Protocol Security Research Team.
