Creative Industry Veteran: AI Can ‘Broaden Artistic Horizons’ Without Replacing Human Creativity

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools have “broadened” the horizons of what’s possible in the art industry and should not be seen as a threat to human creativity, Roman Cyganov, founder and CEO of Antix, argues. Cyganov adds that besides amplifying human creativity, AI in art creates opportunities for unprecedented levels of expression, collaboration and accessibility. This makes the technology a potentially vital tool for today’s artists.

As documented by opponents of AI in art, the technology is already having an impact on Hollywood. In February 2024, prominent actor and producer Tyler Perry said he was putting an $800 million studio expansion on hold after seeing the capabilities of Openai’s Sora. Besides fears that AI will lead to job losses, critics assert that the increased use of the technology could “devalue” traditional forms of artistic expression.

Reports of AI being used to illegally exploit artists’ intellectual property have further fueled resentment of the technology by many in the arts industry. For many artists, art is a deeply personal and human endeavor, something AI tools cannot replicate. However, Cyganov told Bitcoin.com News that when AI is used properly, it can help artists conceptualize complex visuals or generate interactive experiences. Ensuring AI is used to assist human creativity, and not end it, requires its ethical deployment, the Antix CEO explained.

“The ethical deployment of AI is crucial,” Cyganov said. “It’s important to ensure that AI augments human input without erasing it. Proper attribution, fair use of data and responsible AI training are all essential to preserve the authenticity and integrity of artistic expression.”

Cyganov acknowledges that an AI tool’s training data can impact its creativity, but considers this a short-term challenge. As machine learning models evolve through interactions with new data and environments, generative AI can still surprise its creators with novel outputs, he noted. However, even the most advanced AI tools can only simulate human capabilities but never truly embodying them, Cyganov said.

Cyganov meanwhile predicts that AI will revolutionize customer service with personalized and empathetic responses, enhancing user satisfaction. He also envisions AI digital humans — computer-generated representations of humans that simulate human-like behaviors — providing emotional support or explaining complex medical information in plain language.

Regarding his firm’s role in pushing the boundaries of what AI can do, Cyganov revealed that Antix is using AI to create hyper-realistic digital humans through its Avagen technology. He added that the company is also involved in promoting responsible innovation by fostering a community that utilizes the Antix token for co-creation and governance in digital human interactions.

Reflecting on the current AI regulatory landscape, Cyganov, a veteran entrepreneur at the intersection of technology and creativity, acknowledged that many regulators struggle to keep pace with the technology’s rapid advancements. While this likely creates challenges, Cyganov argues it also presents opportunities.

While this gap poses challenges, it also presents an opportunity to shape frameworks that encourage innovation while safeguarding societal interests. Clear guidelines on data privacy, accountability and ethical use can provide much-needed stability for businesses and consumers alike.

A three-way collaboration involving technology innovators, policymakers and academia can also contribute toward the creation of a framework that balances innovation and user safety.
