Neiry Lab is set to roll out a “think-to-airdrop” campaign for its line of devices that records users’ brainwaves. The feature will be pay participants in meme coins for the company’s right to use and sell their brainwave data, which is in hot demand for research.

In December, the research lab gained popularity in the crypto sphere after its experiment on a rat called Pythia went viral, rallying a meme coin community behind it. Pythia has a chip that is hardwired to his brain and connected to a custom-made AI model based on OpenAI’s ChatGPT as well as DeepSeek. This model then translates human languages into brain impulses that make Pythia press one of two buttons.

As a result, Pythia can supposedly answer questions that require yes or no answers—non-binary answers are currently being worked on.

With the rat becoming somewhat of an internet celebrity, crypto degens created a Solana meme coin, which Neiry Lab embraced—after being sent over $670,000 worth of tokens, which has since been transferred to a Meteroa liquidity pool.

PYTHIA reached an all-time high market cap of $50 million in January, just 17 days after launch, according to DEX Screener. It’s since corrected sharply to just under $9 million.

Neiry Lab, which is headquartered in Moscow State University, Russia, includes a range of projects beyond Pythia, and gets most of its funding from venture capital and through the sale of its products—including its headband and headphone mind-tracking devices, which it now offers at a discount when using PYTHIA tokens.

The devices record the electroencephalography (EEG) data of its user, which the company says it can translate into focus and relaxation levels, among other things.

Neiry Lab claims that some poker players have used its devices to understand what mental state they were in when making decisions during a game.

A company spokesman told Decrypt that Neiry is about to release a platform "where people are able to mine brain data in exchange for tokens."

If users consent, then they will be able to sell their EEG data to Neiry Lab to use in their own research or to sell to other companies. EEG data is a much-needed form of data for research regarding the brain, but it is fairly scarce. That's why Neiry is keen to collect and sell it.

“There is currently an astonishing lack of valuable brain data, particularly high-quality, diverse EEG data, and this scarcity is cutting us off from the development of several critical solutions,” Neal K. Shah, CEO of dementia care and research company CareYaya, told Decrypt.

All of the brain data collected from users will be anonymized so it cannot be traced back to who it was recorded from, Neiry Labs said.

“There are a lot of companies that are eager to get a lot of [EEG] data. And you know, ‘kilometers’ of EEG data is required,” the spokesman told Decrypt. “I believe this is the way to fund, in terms of information, very important research that has to be going on these days.”

Neiry Lab is looking for the think-to-airdrop system to work similar to move-to-earn app Stepn. The feature will reward users with more tokens for positive behaviors, such as meditating.

“We will make people try to live a lifestyle where they’ll be less [stressed and] more happy, and this is when you will get more points,” the spokesman said. “We will actually teach people to feel happy and make them understand when they are feeling well and when they need to take a pause.”

The feature is supposed to launch within the next two months, with the PYTHIA meme coin set to be the token that users are paid with. However, the company said that the overall workings of the plan are still subject to change.
