A few weeks after the launch of the Nillion eligibility checker, the Nillion team observed various speculations about airdrop eligibility both within and outside the community. Some people felt angry, while others were excited, but the fact is that no one really knows the final distribution at this point. Today, I want to clarify who the Nillion airdrop rewards are for and detail the methods to ensure that true community members receive rewards, rather than those who treat the Nillion Discord as an airdrop waiting room.

What Makes Nillion's Airdrop Different

Before diving into the details, let me be straightforward: “We are doing something different. This may upset some people, but we firmly believe that this approach will set a new standard for how crypto projects recognize their communities.”

Nillion has always been a leader, not a follower. Remember the community round financing model that we pioneered? Many projects later followed suit. Now, we are once again setting a new standard by prioritizing rewards for true contributors rather than those who only seek to profit.

This achievement is made possible by the steadfast support of the core community. It is the investment and belief of everyone that has redefined how crypto projects measure community value.

Measuring True Community Contribution

In designing the airdrop matrix, the Nillion team identified three main categories:

• Community Value

• Developer and Open Source Contributions

• Participation in the Validator Program

These categories are intended to reward contributions that have a profound impact on the project, including cultural contributions (such as art, writing, design) and technical contributions (such as GitHub code contributions or applications built on Nillion).

Regarding the Validator Program, the Nillion team's goal is to showcase the power of community-driven privacy, and we have succeeded. However, at the same time, the team has faced challenges from witch hunts and airdrop "bots." Some individuals used one-click nodes (I proactively contacted them to request they remove Nillion), while others operated multiple wallets, with some using 40, 50, 60, or even 100+ wallets to claim airdrop shares that do not belong to them. These situations are not mere speculation; the team has witnessed individuals openly discussing these strategies in certain Discord groups. For example:

• “I claimed with 50 wallets”;

• “I’m discussing how to split IP addresses to bypass detection.”

Therefore, the team has decided: these accounts will not be included in the airdrop list, even if the eligibility checker currently shows them as qualified. The team must ensure that rewards truly belong to the long-term supporters and core community members of the Nillion project.

Weight Distribution Based on Real Impact

So, how do we determine which community contributions carry more weight? The answer is simple: positive value contributions to the project.

This is not merely about “how much time was invested,” but whether it truly advanced Nillion’s development. This means that certain roles and contributions will receive higher weight because they have a substantial impact on Nillion. For example:

• Cultural contributions: Shaping the foundation of the community, their value is hard to measure;

• Volunteer roles: Some have maintained their volunteer status for 8-10 months, and their commitment is more valuable than that of “one-click node operators.”

While the team will not disclose specific numerical values or weight details, we are willing to transparently share our logic and distribution methods, as follows:

NIL Airdrop Value Weighted Reward Mechanism

The team’s reward system is based on a matrix framework, where the more categories users qualify for, the more their rewards will stack and multiply.

• Community Contributors

• Developers

• Active Participants in the Validator Program

• Launch Partners

• Additional Bonuses (These extra contributions will not directly determine eligibility for the airdrop, but users who are already qualified will receive additional bonuses for these contributions)

Who Will Not Receive the Airdrop

The Nillion team is working hard to include as many true contributors as possible in the airdrop list, but users who meet the following criteria will not receive the airdrop, specifically including:

Category 1: Low Participation Secrets Submitters

• Submitted only 4 secrets;

• Did not stake any ETH;

• Do not have any Discord roles (including bonus roles like Sage/Hot Potato);

• Do not hold a Nill Pill NFT.

Category 2: Low Participation Late Validators

• Started validator nodes only after September 14, 2024;

• Did not stake any ETH;

• Do not have any Discord roles (including bonus roles);

• Do not hold a Nill Pill NFT.

Excluding the above two categories ensures that rewards truly belong to those community members who have made long-term investments and demonstrated genuine commitment.

Significance to the Crypto Industry

From day one, the Nillion team has designed its program to be technically challenging enough to prevent pure “bots.”

The model that the Nillion team is building will become the template for future crypto project airdrops. The first to break the old rules often gets hurt, but it is a price worth paying, as the team is setting a higher standard for community recognition. As for those so-called “unofficial airdrop checkers,” please remain rational, do not believe everything, and patiently await the official announcement from Nillion’s Twitter.
