Hackers as Destiny: Four Levers Driving the Future
In "Why Software is Eating the World," Marc Andreessen points out that the expansion of software is not just a technological revolution but also a social transformation. We wholeheartedly agree. However, DoraHacks believes that what truly changes the world is not just software, but a group of hackers willing to take action to solve problems.
DoraHacks is building the Hacker Movement—a global innovation network armed with freedom, open source, and technology. We believe that the endpoint of this movement is not some myth of "Web3.0," nor a technological export of a new Cold War era, but a social reconstruction, a deep response to the question of "what is worth building."
In this process, Dora Ventures serves as the capital engine assisting DoraHacks in coordinating and capturing value. Dora Ventures' current work will focus on the following four areas:
1. FDA Free Society (BioHack)
The health freedom declaration of the hacker society: Unlocking the market mechanisms of life technology.
Looking back at history, every true technological breakthrough has been accompanied by challenges to existing paradigms. Today, the healthcare field remains one of the most bureaucratically constrained areas for humanity—often requiring a new drug to take ten years and billions of dollars to move from the lab to the patient, with the vast majority of innovations stopping there.
FDA Free Society does not call for anarchy but advocates for a more vibrant, patient-centered health and biotech innovation system.
The problems we see:
The FDA's approval cycle and risk-averse mechanisms are stifling potential breakthrough treatments;
The market monopoly of big pharmaceutical companies detaches drug pricing from reality, limiting competition;
Patients' "Right to Try" is marginalized within the regulatory framework;
Small biotech startups face almost no survival space due to high trial costs.
The solutions we believe in:
A market-driven health innovation mechanism: returning more decision-making power for R&D, trials, and usage to patients, doctors, and entrepreneurs;
Bringing innovation back to first principles: not "through approval," but "is it effective?";
Advocating for the Right to Try: the real risk is not trying unapproved therapies, but dying while waiting;
Building a competitive biotech startup ecosystem: helping small teams have the opportunity to change the world, rather than just working for big pharma.
Software and AI-driven biotechnology: the combination of biotech and software drives entirely new biotech products.
We believe that the future of drug development does not belong to a regulatory agency or a $500 billion company, but to a group of innovators unwilling to wait.
FDA Free Society is a powerful rebuttal to the notion that "technological progress must comply with regulation," and a structural challenge to "innovation must go through approval." We bet on this direction because it is scarcer than "innovation"—it concerns humanity's reassertion of the right to exist.
2. Open Source Quantum Computing Infrastructure
The open-source wave of quantum software is today's Ethereum of 2015.
Arthur C. Clarke once said, "Any sufficiently advanced technology looks like magic." Quantum computing is such a technology. But the problem is that for magic to become a tool, it must become programmable, reproducible, and collaborative—in other words, it needs to be "open source."
Dora Ventures has a clear investment logic in quantum computing: quantum computing is heading towards its "smart contract moment." Hardware is entering an engineering optimization cycle, while the software and tools layer remains barren, but this is precisely the golden age for hackers.
Key trends we are focusing on:
Open-source quantum compilers and transducers: bridging the language barrier between classical and quantum systems;
Quantum cryptography: building new encryption systems using the principles of quantum mechanics;
Quantum software applications: we believe quantum computing software and applications can play a significant role in the advancements of AI, biotech, blockchain, and directly or indirectly impact important fields such as finance, logistics, pharmaceuticals, defense, and space exploration.
We are not just observers but builders. By hosting hackathons, funding and investing in quantum open-source software projects, and conducting research and ecological development in quantum cryptography, we are participating in the construction of the most disruptive computing platform of this era.
3. Consumer Crypto
The spring of fat applications has arrived: Crypto will win the last billion users.
If you understand history, you will realize that today's Crypto is not a "parallel world" of the internet, but the next chapter in the story of the internet.
In the 1990s, HTTP and TCP/IP changed information distribution; in the 2000s, web applications changed business and social interactions; in the 2010s, mobile applications reshaped human behavior; and in the 2020s, Crypto applications will truly reach the masses.
The infrastructure is fully in place, and fat applications are breaking out.
Dora Ventures' core judgment is: whoever can capture the first billion-level user Crypto application scenario will write the story of PayPal and WeChat in the Web3 era.
The compliance of stablecoins will make USDC the digital dollar;
The globalization of decentralized social and crypto payments will give rise to a "VISA network" for Bitcoin and Web3 payments;
Large application chain infrastructure will lower user thresholds through the Move language and simplified tools;
On-chain native economic systems will enable creators to monetize directly and share profits through community collaboration.
Imagine this scenario: a person living in New York uses the on-chain concert platform (KYD Labs) to purchase tickets for tonight's concert using Circle USDC on the fast Move blockchain network (Aptos), while a resident of Argentina buys a latte daily at a café using Bitcoin "satoshis" on the Lightning Network, splitting the bill with friends on a decentralized social media platform (Yakihonne). These will all happen this year. We are not just investing in protocols but in the creators of new experiential paradigms.
4. Agentic Organizations
Organizations will become agents, and DAOs will become the organizational form of large language models.
In 2022, Sam Altman redefined the concept of "tools"; by 2025, we will redefine the concept of "organizations."
We believe that future organizations will not be matrix structures composed of people but intelligent systems formed by agent collaboration.
Agents are the new work units, tirelessly learning and automatically scheduling. They are not tools that enhance humans but the brains of automated organizations.
Some examples:
DAO Agent systems will automatically execute governance processes and protect participant privacy;
The Smart Widget framework allows developers to deploy social, payment, and trading agents with just three lines of code;
Privacy protocols and applications will become mainstream in automated organizations;
Hackathons will give rise to a large number of crypto agents.
AI + blockchain is not a buzzword but the starting point for organizational intelligence.
In the past, we said, "Companies are machines for processing information"; in the future, we will say, "DAOs are networks of agent operations." We are entering an era of fully automated organizations without CEOs, approval processes, or offices.
Epilogue: We Bet on Humanity with "BUIDL Freedom"
These four directions—FDA Free Society, Open Source Quantum, Consumer Crypto, Agentic Organizations—are not a future we fantasize about but a future that has already begun to unfold.
Dora Ventures is not betting on technology but on a group of rebellious builders. They are willing to solve real problems, question existing systems, and build a new order. They believe the world can be different and are willing to take action to make it happen.
The hacker movement is consuming the world; in the age of artificial intelligence, humanity will inevitably become hackers, using code, governance, and imagination to create a world worth living in.
