Gaming giant Ubisoft has partnered with Web3 company Immutable to launch the blockchain-based strategy card game "Might & Magic: Fates," set in the Might & Magic universe.
According to a press release obtained by Cointelegraph, "Might & Magic: Fates" combines classic strategy gameplay with modern blockchain technology, providing players with digital ownership through Immutable's Web3 infrastructure.
The game will be available on iOS and Android platforms. It introduces new gameplay mechanics, faction-based strategies, and a plethora of legendary heroes and creatures.
Players can collect, trade, and customize decks made up of hundreds of cards to create unique strategies in a competitive environment, with the game's success depending on players' skills and tactical decisions.
Justin Hulog, Chief Studio Officer at Immutable, stated in an interview with Cointelegraph: "This is a free game with no strict progression limits. Players can collect cards and in-game currency through gameplay to enhance their progress."
Hulog added, "Additionally, players who want to speed up their progress or acquire specific cards can make purchases through the marketplace."
He further mentioned that players will be able to trade their owned digital collectible cards through a dedicated platform.
As a leading Web3 gaming platform, Immutable will provide blockchain infrastructure support for the project.
The company is known for operating games like "Gods Unchained" and "Guild of Guardians," which aim to provide players with true ownership of in-game assets through blockchain technology.
"Gods Unchained" is a free NFT card battle game where players can collect, trade, and battle using unique owned cards. The game runs on Immutable's gas-free layer two solution and is currently transitioning to Immutable zkEVM to enhance functionality.
"Guild of Guardians" is a mobile role-playing game (RPG) where players can build NFT-based hero teams to participate in dungeon raid battles.
Ubisoft has been one of the few video game publishers to incorporate crypto elements into its games.
In October 2024, the company announced the release of its first game integrating Web3 technology. The game, titled "Champions Tactics: Grimoria," is deployed on the Web3 gaming ecosystem Oasys layer two network Home Verse.
In December 2024, Ubisoft and the Arbitrum Foundation announced the launch of the Web3-supported top-down shooter game "Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E."
Set in the Ubisoft gaming universe, the game features a roster of characters from titles such as "Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon," "Rayman," "Assassin's Creed," "Beyond Good and Evil," "The Crew," "Rainbow Six," "Splinter Cell," and "Watch Dogs."
