Yesterday, I posted a tweet about the potential malfeasance of cold wallet manufacturers, and there were indeed some insightful responses among the followers.

However, most followers are still tangled up in the issue of random numbers, always talking about what pseudo-randomness is. In fact, this is not a problem at all. Nowadays, even mobile wallets are not pseudo-random anymore. For example, you can create private keys by listening to surrounding noise, radio interference, etc. Hardware wallets are even less pseudo-random, as they have dedicated chips to capture random signals from the physical world.

At the very least, you can still flip a coin 256 times to create your own private key, so don’t get too caught up in the issue of random numbers.

Also, you don’t necessarily have to generate the mnemonic phrase using a cold wallet; you can import it, which means you won’t have to worry about the cold wallet’s mnemonic library or random values being problematic.

What I’m saying is, if—note the word if—hardware manufacturers theoretically could extract the mnemonic phrase from your cold wallet (including those that are imported), collecting the mnemonic phrase doesn’t necessarily mean they will act maliciously right away!
