The privacy-focused Brave web browser will soon integrate with the Cardano blockchain, according to a press release published on Monday. Cardano’s cryptocurrency ADA, a nod to English mathematician Ada Lovelace, currently boasts the ninth largest market capitalization at more than $28 billion according to Coinmarketcap.

Brave was co-created by Mozilla and Firefox co-founder Brandon Eich who also invented the Javascript programming language and previously worked on the Netscape web browser, which dominated the market in the 1990s. Eich was Mozilla’s CEO before being ousted for his views against gay marriage. Then in 2015, he co-founded Brave Software with the goal of creating a competitor to Google Chrome.

Eich positioned Brave as a privacy-focused browser, ensuring it blocked advertisements and cookies while giving users the option to receive rewards in exchange for viewing ads. Brave users can earn basic attention tokens (BATs), the browser’s native currency, held in its built-in wallet. Over time, Brave’s wallet has become multi-chain, integrating many of the major cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin ( BTC), ether ( ETH), and solana ( SOL). And now, Brave’s 85 million users will soon be able to send, receive, and swap Cardano’s ADA.

“Integrating Cardano into Brave Wallet not only expands multi-chain access, but also enhances security, governance participation, and the overall user experience,” Eich said. Cardano inventor and CEO of Input | Output (IO) Charles Hoskinson also chimed in, describing the integration as a “natural fit.”

“We are not only expanding functionality for Cardano users in the age of on-chain governance, but also advancing a new standard for how blockchain networks should empower individuals,” Hoskinson explained.
