Original: “Brave Adds Support for Cardano Blockchain to Its Browser and Web3 Wallet”
The web browser Brave, focused on Web3 and privacy protection, has integrated support for the Cardano blockchain into its native wallet and standalone wallet.
According to an announcement on May 12, this integration stems from a collaboration between the Brave browser and Cardano development company Input Output. Both parties stated, “Integrating Cardano into the Brave wallet allows users to access the Cardano blockchain and manage tokens.” Brendan Eich, co-founder and CEO of Brave and the Basic Attention Token (BAT), said:
“Integrating Cardano into the Brave wallet not only expands multi-chain access but also enhances security, governance participation, and the overall user experience.”
Brendan explained that Brave is committed to maximizing user choice while providing tools for interacting with decentralized ecosystems. With this integration, users of the Web3 browser and standalone wallet will be able to access the Cardano blockchain directly without leaving the interface.
As of the time of publication, Brave has not responded to Cointelegraph's request for comment.
Brave currently supports the Ethereum and Solana blockchains. The announcement specifically mentioned Midnight (NIGHT) as an ecosystem that will benefit from this support:
“This collaboration also lays the groundwork for future innovations around Cardano governance and Midnight. Midnight is a blockchain developed by Shielded Technologies, a branch of Input Output, focusing on confidential smart contracts and data protection.”
Midnight is a privacy-focused sidechain of Cardano. Input Output CEO Charles Hoskinson recently suggested that the network could also offer free transactions for non-fungible token (NFT) holders.
Charles explained that users will receive NFTs upon registration, which will grant them a certain number of transaction rights each day. He stated that this would allow for use cases similar to the Web2 model:
“And then suddenly, you have the entire Web2 business model: you can offer people free accounts and free applications, using crypto infrastructure without needing to hold tokens.”
The announcement hinted that the newly established partnership between the Brave browser and Input Output will lead to more future developments. The announcement noted that this collaboration “lays the groundwork for future innovations around Cardano governance and Midnight.”
Midnight CEO Eran Barak told Cointelegraph in February that transparency, as one of the biggest selling points of blockchain, also hinders its widespread adoption and application in fields like business and healthcare. He explained that metadata allows individuals to be identified and tracked, which obstructs the popularization of blockchain.
The development of Midnight follows the announcement by the Cardano ecosystem team in early 2023 of a software toolkit that allows developers to deploy custom sidechains.
