Let me tell you about a real event that happened to me. It should be in 2020 when I wrote my first "will." At that time, the global travel mode had already started. Because I had traveled too much, combined with the complexity of acquiring cryptocurrency, I wrote the first letter to my wife detailing how to access my cryptocurrency.
Other things weren't the most important; the most important part was that I told her not to sell the $DOT in the wallet (ImToken) unless necessary. The price at that time was around $4 (similar to the current price), and I didn't have a lot of DOT, only a little over 10,000 coins.
But at that time, it was almost half of my assets. The other half consisted of $BTC, $ETH, and a small amount of USDT, which were on exchanges. I didn't have strong confidence in BTC at that time, but I wrote in the letter that I believed DOT could reach $10, and then she would have $100,000, which would be enough to pay off our mortgage.
When I wrote this letter, I was actually very joyful. Since officially entering the crypto space in 2018, I had seen too many friends become wealthy because of cryptocurrency. To be honest, compared to now, it was really like picking up money with my eyes closed back then. Perhaps because I am naturally a bit timid, I didn't seize the opportunity to make big money aside from buying some BTC and ETH at low prices. Although I already had a fund and started investing, I didn't make much money.
Even so, it was the first time I had received such a large amount of "cash" after working for so long. I remember very clearly that although this will was never used, when DOT reached $10, I felt joy and happiness once again. By that time, I had accumulated more $DOT, mainly purchased from colleagues at the company. At that time, I reached a cooperation with QingWen from Polkadot to establish the first Polkadot community in Hong Kong, and we were also among the first batch of investors committed to becoming Polkadot nodes.
The price I got $DOT for was $0.85, obtained OTC from the first batch of investors. Later, I heard that there was an allocation of an equivalent amount of $KSM, but it seemed I didn't receive it. Then, when DOT was below $8, many colleagues in the team wanted to sell, thinking that nearly 10 times the profit was already good enough. I bought some more from them, clearing out all cryptocurrencies except for BTC, including ETH, to buy these DOT.
When it reached $10, I didn't sell. When it reached $20, I still didn't sell. When it hit $40, I still held on. But then came May 19, 2021, when DOT's price dropped to a low of $10. By that time, DOT had become more than half of my position. God knows how regretful I was; I was even a bit crazy and hysterical, but I managed to get through it.
The reason I got through it was that several projects I invested in and incubated were doing well, providing me with additional income. However, from the perspective of my current friends, these earnings seem trivial, but for me back then, they were essential for survival.
I never cared about what results I could achieve with a single coin, but I still remember the joy I felt when I made my first $40,000. Occasionally, I would envy my friends who became wealthy, but I never looked down on myself because of others' wealth. No matter how rich others are, it has nothing to do with me. If I have the ability, I will earn more; if I don't, envying others is useless.
What I want to say is, don't belittle the money you make, and don't feel anxious when you see others making money. As long as you can improve, as long as you can grow and profit compared to yesterday, then it's worth being happy. Try to lower your threshold for happiness and raise your threshold for worries; the world might become different.
All roads lead to Rome; don't underestimate the young and poor.
PS: Does anyone still know the queen of financing in Singapore back then? The black strap girl who signed a contract with me. Those who know her must be old-timers now.
