U.S. Vice President JD Vance delivered a keynote speech at the Bitcoin 2025 conference held in Las Vegas, Nevada, encouraging Bitcoin enthusiasts to deepen their political engagement.
Vance emphasized the strategic and geopolitical importance of Bitcoin, pointing out that the U.S. should maintain its leadership in the cryptocurrency industry to remain competitive in the digital finance era. Vance told the audience:
“The things happening in the political arena and bureaucracy will affect even the most transformative and valuable technologies if we do not make the right decisions. The first thing I want to ask you to do is to carry the momentum of political participation from 2024 into 2026 and beyond.”
The Vice President continued, “Do not ignore politics, because I assure you, my friends, politics will not ignore this community, not now, not ever.”
Bitcoin continues to gain institutional recognition and has been elevated to an asset class of macroeconomic and geopolitical significance. Market analysts and Bitcoin advocates warn that a race among global sovereign nations to acquire BTC is underway.
Bitcoin maximalists and market analysts believe that high-risk game theory compels nations to adopt BTC, as failing to do so while sovereign competitors do could lead to downside risks or opportunity costs.
This so-called national fear of missing out (FOMO) is further amplified by U.S. President Donald Trump's pro-crypto stance, which includes the creation of a Bitcoin strategic reserve and a cryptocurrency advisory council.
The regulatory shift in the U.S. has prompted other governments to indicate they may also reconsider their policies on cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin. For example, the Indian government is re-evaluating its crypto policy in response to regulatory changes in the U.S. Indian Economic Affairs Secretary Ajay Seth stated that digital assets do not care about national borders.
