According to Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI has partnered with Telegram to integrate its AI chatbot Grok into the messaging platform.
Durov announced on May 28 on the X platform that Telegram has reached a one-year partnership agreement with xAI to distribute Grok to Telegram's 1 billion users and integrate it into its application.
As part of the agreement, Telegram will receive $300 million in cash and equity from Musk's AI company, and will also receive 50% of the subscription revenue from xAI sold through Telegram, Durov noted.
Durov posted on his Telegram channel: "This summer, Telegram users will have access to the best AI technology on the market."
According to a promotional video accompanying Durov's announcement, the collaboration is expected to widely roll out Grok's features within the messaging platform.
Grok can be accessed through Telegram's search bar, and the service will offer threaded chats, smart text editing, chat summaries, document summaries, inbox agents, group chat management, and more.
As of the time of publication, neither xAI nor Grok has independently confirmed the partnership.
Some commentators speculate that following the collaboration, Elon Musk may soon create his own Telegram channel.
This news emerged from multiple reports related to Telegram released on May 28, including reports that BlackRock is reportedly involved in a $1.5 billion bond sale for the messaging platform, and former Visa crypto business executive Nikola Plecas joining the TON Foundation as the new Vice President of Payments.
Telegram works closely with the TON Foundation and selected Toncoin (TON) in January as the only accepted cryptocurrency for application services on the messaging platform.
Toncoin surged after the news release, skyrocketing 20% within hours. According to CoinGecko, TON is currently trading at $3.60, with a market capitalization of $8.9 billion, making it the 19th largest cryptocurrency.
