Winklevoss and Armstrong Warn: Socialism Punishes the Poor the Most

Gemini co-founder Tyler Winklevoss has issued a scathing critique of New York City’s political and cultural decline, responding to questions about his potential involvement in the city’s mayoral race and particularly targeting state assemblyman Zohran Mamdani. The assemblyman is running for the position of New York’s mayor.

In his statement, Winklevoss expressed deep ambivalence about supporting a candidate to oppose Mamdani, describing the city as a “broken kleptocracy.”

“Taxes are astronomical and services are pathetic to nonexistent,” Winklevoss wrote. He stressed that ideas like socialism are “the next logical steps in this story arc. It’s what the people of NYC have been asking for for years and it looks like it’s what they are about to get.”

He argued that generations who did not experience the crime and chaos of the late 20th century are now embracing ideologies that undermine the foundations of Western civilization. Winklevoss said:

The Zoomers and Millennials need a refresher on the outcome of Marxism and socialism.

Winklevoss laid part of the blame on affluent families who prioritized social status over ideological vigilance. “Not ruffling feathers was more important than questioning the ideological insanity being taught… All that mattered was fitting in and getting invited to the right dinner parties.”

His remarks culminated in a stark prediction: “Sometimes the only way to learn something is to learn it the hard way. Sometimes the only way to learn the value of what you have is to lose it. If that’s the case, Marxism and socialism might just be what the doctor ordered.”

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong echoed these sentiments in a brief but forceful statement about socialism. “Well said,” he affirmed. “Socialism ultimately harms the poorest people in society the most (while being marketed as a way to protect them). Economic freedom is required for all societal progress. Every generation has to learn this lesson, sometimes the hard way, as it is a counter-intuitive result.”

Their warnings present a moral indictment of complacency and ideological rot. Whether New York listens remains uncertain.
