Tesla CEO and tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has confirmed that his newly established political party—the America Party—will accept Bitcoin (BTC).

"Fiat currency has no hope, so yes," Musk replied on the X platform to a user who inquired whether his new party would embrace BTC.

Musk is no stranger to BTC, as Tesla was an early adopter, holding BTC on its balance sheet.

Under his leadership as CEO, Tesla purchased $1.5 billion worth of BTC in early 2021, making it one of the first publicly traded companies to hold BTC as a reserve on its balance sheet.

According to Bitbo data, Tesla currently holds 11,509 BTC, valued at approximately $1.26 billion, making the electric vehicle manufacturer the ninth largest publicly traded company holding BTC on its balance sheet.

The Tesla CEO has also been a supporter of Dogecoin for years, leading to the meme coin's price either skyrocketing or plummeting after his tweets.

Samson Mow, founder of Jan3, stated that embracing BTC could give Musk an edge in his ongoing tussle with Trump.

Mow suggested that Tesla should start accepting BTC as a payment method again, and Musk's SpaceX should offer discounts to those paying with BTC.

In 2024, Musk rejected the idea of using the BTC network as a payment form on Mars. However, he later reconsidered, stating that a localized Lightning Network could solve the issue of slow transactions.

Musk has not always supported BTC. In 2021, he claimed that BTC's price was "too high," which led to a drop in BTC prices.

Musk's relationship with Donald Trump soured over Trump's "Beautiful Big Deal," which Musk previously called "completely insane and destructive," believing it would erode millions of jobs in the U.S. and cause "huge strategic harm" to the nation.

It is estimated that the "Beautiful Big Deal" will add $3.3 trillion to the U.S. national debt over the next decade.

Musk questioned the rationale behind Trump's creation of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an initiative aimed at reducing the national debt, if he was going to increase it by trillions of dollars.

He later hinted that the U.S. needs a new political party that "truly cares about the people."

On Sunday, Musk announced that he would create the America Party, following a vote in which over 1.24 million people participated, with nearly two-thirds of voters supporting the new party.

"When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and corruption, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy," Musk added.

U.S. President Donald Trump subsequently criticized Musk for creating a third party. Trump stated that Musk's new party could split the Republican vote in the 2026 midterm elections.
