New protocol lets Bitcoin, Ethereum and other major chains gain opt‑in confidentiality without giving up liquidity or self‑custody

31st July 2025 – Confidential Layer, an interoperability start‑up building on the Bridgeless L1 blockchain, today announced the public launch of its non‑custodial cross‑chain bridge. The release enables users to upgrade their favorite assets such as BTC, ETH, BNB and more directly into “confidential assets” (a form of assets with superior privacy features) on privacy networks like Zano—bringing full transactional anonymity to assets that have historically been transparent. Unlike traditional bridges, Confidential Layer never takes custody of funds; original coins are locked in smart contracts or non‑custodial wallets, and cryptographic proofs mint corresponding privacy tokens on the target chain.

“Transparency has long been crypto’s double‑edged sword,” said Confidential Layer’s Community Lead who goes by the pseudonym Connor. “Investors want the capital efficiency of public chains, but they also deserve the discretion afforded by cash in the physical world. Confidential Layer delivers both, without asking users to abandon the assets or ecosystems they already trust.”

Key launch capabilities

  • Initial networks: Bitcoin,, Ethereum, Bridgeless, BNB, Base and Zano privacy L1.
  • Privacy tokens: Wrapped representations inherit Zano’s confidential‑asset framework, shielding amounts, addresses and asset type from public view.
  • Interoperability: During bridging, your crypto upgrades into Confidential Assets (Zano) or X Assets (Bridgeless-wrapped assets), which benefit from enhanced interoperability and can be bridged between any integrated blockchain, unlocking limitless cross-chain possibilities and new DeFi opportunities.
  • Roadmap: Confidential Layer’s Transaction Bundler for cross-chain swaps of native assets is coming next, enabling native BTC ↔ ETH trades in one step (phase 2 rollout). Solana and TON integrations are scheduled for Q3 2025, followed by a mobile Confidential Wallet and open API.

Industry response

Privacy‑focused networks have welcomed the bridge as a catalyst for broader adoption of confidential assets.

“Zano has supported the creation of Confidential Assets on its blockchain since the Zarcanum hard fork in March 2024,” said Pavel Nikienkov, co‑founder of Zano. “While the potential of this technology has always been enormous, adoption was understandably limited without broader interoperability. With the launch of the Confidential Layer bridge, we’re now seeing one of its most important use cases come to life—connecting Zano to major crypto ecosystems and unlocking benefits like deeper liquidity and seamless access to DeFi.”

Bitcoin.com, whose self‑custodial wallet counts more than 70  million wallets created, confirmed that an integration is underway.

“Our users increasingly want privacy options that are flexible and fully opt‑in,” said Corbin Fraser, CEO of Bitcoin.com. “Integrating Confidential Layer will give them the ability to maintain their exposure to the assets they already trust—like Bitcoin—while choosing to add a layer of privacy when they need it. It’s about unlocking that optionality without forcing trade‑offs in performance or usability.”

How it works

  1. Deposit – A user locks native assets on the source chain; for EVM networks this occurs in an audited smart contract, while UTXO chains use a threshold‑signature escrow.
  2. Witness creation – The protocol posts a zero‑knowledge witness to Bridgeless L1, confirming the deposit without revealing amounts.
  3. Mint – Equivalent confidential tokens are minted on the destination privacy chain.
  4. Redeem or swap – Users can hold, spend, or route the assets back to any supported public chain, burning the privacy tokens and unlocking the original coins.

Token economics

Confidential Layer’s token $CLONE will launch alongside phase‑3 bridge paths later this quarter and is designed to reward its stakers and community governance participants with revenue share from bridging fees.

The Confidential Layer bridge is live today at app.confidentiallayer.com on desktop browsers with MetaMask and Zano Companion extensions.

Confidential Layer is a bridge that lets users upgrade their assets with enhanced privacy and interoperability. By combining threshold signatures, Confidential Assets, and the Bridgeless L1 network, the project enables seamless asset transfers between transparent and privacy‑focused blockchains while keeping users in full control of their keys.

Zano is an open‑source, privacy‑focused layer‑one blockchain launched in 2019 by members of the original CryptoNote research team. Using a hybrid Proof‑of‑Work/Proof‑of‑Stake consensus model, Zano combines ring signatures, stealth addresses, and bulletproofs to deliver confidential transactions that shield sender, receiver, and amount data on‑chain. The protocol also supports confidential asset issuance and a built in escrow system designed for secure peer‑to‑peer e‑commerce. With an active global developer community and a commitment to practical privacy, Zano aims to provide users and enterprises with a scalable, censorship‑resistant foundation for everyday payments and decentralized applications.
