The date has arrived, and as of Aug. 2, 2025—the day pegged as the start of the so-called 51% domination—there’s still no sign of an actual attack. As of 2 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, there have been zero chain reorganizations, no double-spends, no signs of censorship, and no hiccups across the Monero network.

The XMR hashrate tracker miningpoolstats.stream shows that the Qubic Pool has zero hashrate and there’s an API error.

Over on Reddit, Monero proponents are diving into the topic with full-throttle enthusiasm. In the Reddit thread titled “and so it’s August 2nd,” the top comment casts Qubic’s threats as little more than a flashy marketing ploy. “From my perspective, it seems like an astroturfing campaign with a distinct agenda,” the commenter wrote.

While the XMR network has 5.54 gigahash per second (GH/s) of total hashrate, 20.8% of it is being mined by unknown miners. While some XMR proponents believe Qubic is bluffing, some have claimed Qubic miners have simply entered “stealth mode.”

Not everyone’s convinced it’s over, though. One XMR supporter chimed in with a word of caution: “Good news, but let’s not get too comfortable or underestimate the enemy. We should remain calm, but also stay vigilant.” Qubic’s pseudonymous creator on X, known as Come-from-Beyond (CFB), claimed the project had come under a DDoS attack.

“Qubic is being DDoSed. Let’s see what countermeasure[s] Monero fans prepared for us,” he posted. Then, at 11:52 a.m. Eastern, CFB, followed up with a warning: “The DDoS attack has stopped. Which isn’t a smart move, because 51% domination may happen at any moment between now and the 31st of August, as was announced.”

Plenty of people fired back, saying CFB was just shifting the goalposts. Meanwhile, Qubic supporters insisted they were doing exactly what they intended—keeping XMR proponents on their toes. Another sticking point is that major XMR hashrate tracking platforms have stopped displaying Qubic Pool entirely—sparking plenty of debate.

After previously hitting 15% to 20%, and even topping 35%, sites like miningpoolstats.stream now show Qubic Pool with zero hashrate. Some Monero supporters argue the hashrate was spoofed from the start, calling it unverifiable and propped up by shady self-reports. Qubic fans counter that miners have purposely gone dark, cutting off tracker reporting as part of a broader strategy to remain hidden.

To some observers, combined with boycott efforts, this tactic has made the operation less visible without affecting the network. XMR proponents, for their part, are viewing the decline—and the lack of a 51% takeover—as a clear win.
