Binance co-founder Zhao Changpeng (CZ)'s lawyer denied that he paid any money to U.S. President Donald Trump in exchange for a pardon.

CZ's private attorney, Teresa Goody Guillén, stated on Anthony Pompliano's "Pomp Podcast" on Friday that the criticisms surrounding CZ's pardon are "a pile of false statements."

"The media continues to refer to World Liberty as Trump's company, but I have not seen any evidence to support that claim," she said, adding:

CZ was sentenced to four months in prison in 2024 and had to step down from Binance due to charges related to failing to establish anti-money laundering (AML) protocols within the company.

The former CEO of Binance received a pardon from Donald Trump in October, with the president stating that the reason for CZ's incarceration "was not a crime."

Critics, including Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren, labeled the pardon as "corruption," claiming that CZ "supported" one of Trump's crypto projects and "lobbied for the pardon."

The former CEO of Binance countered that she could not "figure out the facts."

In response to Warren's claims, Guillén questioned the immunity granted to U.S. politicians, criticizing Warren for incorrectly stating that CZ was convicted of a crime "he was not convicted of," as well as the allegations regarding his facing additional "criminal liability" due to the pardon.

"This is actually an area I hope we pay more attention to because, you know, granting immunity to these people is not what our founding fathers intended," she said.

On the Pompliano podcast, Guillén argued that CZ was "pardoned for justice," believing that CZ has become a scapegoat in the war against cryptocurrency, while noting that executives in traditional finance facing similar legal issues have not been imprisoned.

"He is the only one who has been prosecuted for this specific charge or any charge with similar characteristics, and worse, he was sent to prison for it, like no fraud, no victims, no criminal history, or anything like that," she said, adding:
