Gabriel Campa, Head of Digital Assets at Towerbank, stated that he knows banks are prepared to enter the cryptocurrency services market in Argentina.

Following a discussion on the same subject at LABITCONF 2025, one of the largest crypto events in Latin America, Campa highlighted that many banks were not only interested but had already developed internal systems to offer crypto services.

Taking to the local press, Campa declared:

I believe the banking sector is ready, and I know many banks in Argentina that will launch their apps as soon as the law changes. They have them set up and ready because they’ve been working on it for a long time. They’re prepared.

This evolution can take two paths as banks seek to enter the market quickly. Campa believes that some companies will develop their crypto solutions directly, while others will seek to forge alliances with third parties to this end. “There will be a mixture of these two approaches,” Campa asserted.

Argentine banks were among the first institutions to offer crypto services in Latam, with Banco Galicia introducing this functionality in May 2022, partnering with Lirium. Nonetheless, the Central Bank of Argentina quickly closed the doors for this to happen, forbidding private banks from offering crypto assets and derivatives on their platforms.

Since then, banks have been barred from crypto markets, but the libertarian government of President Javier Milei might change this measure to allow banks to dabble in crypto.

Campa predicts this situation might change, as the Argentine government is taking crypto regulation in a new direction, with key officials referring to the issue openly. “You can see the signs. You can see certain changes in the government. It’s clear that Argentina is changing,” he concluded.
