2026 could be the year of the Agentic Economy

x402 allows any web resource or API to gate access via crypto payment requests. When an agent needs something, the server responds with a price and wallet address. The agent signs the transaction, provides proof of payment, and gets instant access.

Agents can now "pay as they go," eliminating subscriptions and the need for sign in accounts.

But payments alone don't solve everything. The real friction in an anonymous machine-to-machine economy is trust.

This is where ERC-8004 comes in.

This standard introduces a registry system for AI agents that solves trust at the protocol level.

The Identity Registry maps an agent's wallet address onchain to its offchain model specs, including model type and what it's tuned for.

The Reputation Registry lets other agents leave immutable feedback on performance, giving every agent a cred score.

The Validation Registry allows agents to stake ETH to back their outputs. Deliver bad results and get slashed.

Now combine x402 payments with ERC-8004 identity, and you get a closed loop agent economy operating at speeds no human consumer can match.
