In a blog post, A16z analysts released three crypto predictions, the first of which is that “ prediction markets will go bigger and broader, plus get smarter.”
A16z researcher Andy Hall says prediction markets will continue their rapid expansion by integrating with crypto and artificial intelligence (AI) in order to increase transparency, auditability, and deal with much larger volumes.
Said Hall:
…We’ll need to lean on new technologies like AI, which can improve the survey-taking experience; and crypto, which can provide new ways to prove that poll/ survey respondents are not bots but humans, among other things.
The second prediction, offered by analyst Justin Thaler, is the advancement of zkVMs (zero-knowledge virtual machines) hitting “10,000x overhead” with memory footprints hundreds of megabytes in size, making them fast enough to run on phones and extremely cheap. Thaler says it will finally become possible to get “cryptographic proofs of correctness” for a reasonable price overhead.
This could allow for stronger chain-bridging, much easier on-chain verification of off-chain activity, more efficient layer two ( L2) scaling, and a plethora of other use cases.
Lastly, Robert Hackett of A16z’s crypto editorial team predicts the rise of “staked media,” or a system that allows media companies to prove they have a “skin in the game” of whatever content they’re publishing.
Staked media could address the problem of companies using AI and bots to pump out unlimited content from any point of view or persona, Hackett says.
The new system wouldn’t just embrace the idea of having skin in the game, but ideally also supply the proof.
The analyst stated:
In this model, credibility comes neither from feigning detachment nor making unsubstantiated claims; instead, it comes from having stakes that you can make transparent and verifiable commitments about. Staked media will not replace other forms of media, it supplements what we already have. It offers a new signal: Not just ‘trust me, I’m neutral,’ but ‘here’s what I’m willing to risk, and how you can check that I’m telling the truth.’
A16z announced late last week that it had raised over $15 billion for various venture projects, and named AI and crypto as “key architectures of the future.”
The firm said:
Our mission is ensuring that America wins the next 100 years of technology. That starts with winning the key architectures of the future – AI and crypto. It continues with applying those technologies to the key areas that generate human flourishing: biology, health, defense, public safety, education, and entertainment. And it culminates with the American government adopting these technologies to defend and advance American interests

A16z predicts major growth in prediction markets, a breakthrough new crypto primitive using zkVMs, and the rise of “staked media” to restore trust online. - How will prediction markets use crypto and AI?
A16z says crypto and AI will make prediction markets more transparent, scalable, and resistant to bots by verifying real human participation. - What is the new crypto primitive Andreessen Horowitz is forecasting?
The venture firm expects zkVMs to enable cheap cryptographic proofs of correctness, allowing secure verification of off-chain activity, bridges, and L2 scaling. - What is staked media and why does A16z think it matters?
Staked media lets publishers prove credibility by putting verifiable financial or reputational stakes behind their content instead of relying on trust alone.
