The steadfastness of Ethereum

I often read articles related to Vitalik's statements. Interestingly, the more the ecological construction is sluggish and the more the ecological atmosphere is bleak, the more such articles actively present themselves before me.

Recently, an interview on PANews titled "Revisiting Vitalik: Rejecting the Doomsday Script, Searching for the Lost Soul of Crypto" is a particularly timely article (for detailed content, see the reference link at the end).

I always emphasize in my articles that evaluating a project ultimately comes down to looking at its founder, especially how they perform when facing immense pressure, industry crossroads, and sudden crises.

This subconscious direct reaction often reveals their true character and inner self.

This cannot be faked or acted out. This essence and inner self are often the soul that the founder injects into the project, which is also the foundation and gene that allows the project to stand out, thrive, and even achieve a century-long legacy. It is also the moat that is hardest for other projects to replicate and build.

Just a couple of days ago, I wrote about the series of "loneliness," "desolation," and "confusion" faced by participants in the current crypto ecosystem.

In today's crypto ecosystem, not only have the once-vocal KOLs gone silent, but even many formerly high-profile project founders have lost their stance, making Vitalik's interview particularly worth savoring.

In this interview, there are several points I appreciate:

Vitalik explained the problems that social projects in the current crypto ecosystem are encountering in their development, believing that projects have focused too much on incentivizing users with tokens while neglecting how to truly encourage users to produce high-quality content.

I think this issue is likely not only a problem for social projects but also a common issue in many other fields, such as blockchain games.

Perhaps because crypto technology conveniently provides financial incentives through tokens, projects easily take "shortcuts" to attract users with financial stimuli. However, in many applications, what can truly attract users long-term and sustainably may not be financial means.

This issue may also exist, to some extent, in currently popular prediction applications.

If this misconception is not broken, many applications in the crypto ecosystem may find it difficult to escape the "vicious circle" they have encountered in the present and past.

Regarding the combination of crypto technology and AI, Vitalik mentioned a viewpoint I greatly appreciate:

"Do not combine just for the sake of combining."

He cited the example of TCP/IP. This internet protocol stack is now the foundation of AI, but it did not exist for AI and does not need to be restructured for AI.

So, in my understanding, the same logic applies: Ethereum does not need to transform itself for AI but should adhere to the direction, principles, and values it should uphold.

I appreciate this viewpoint for another reason: a great project must possess a rebellious spirit, unyielding to worldly notions. It must always remember its original intention and ideals, and continuously move toward what it believes is the right direction.

After stating this viewpoint, Vitalik then addressed a topic that, while often discussed, I believe many people still may not truly understand and cherish: the core value of Ethereum.

The questioner asked a very good question:

"If you could discard all of Ethereum's historical baggage and redesign Ethereum on a blank slate, what would you do?"

Vitalik provided a perfect answer that moved all who cherish Ethereum's values:

"No matter how many times we start over, Ethereum's core goal remains unchanged: to be a decentralized application platform."

And he gave a statement that I believe only a very few project entrepreneurs in the entire crypto ecosystem could articulate:

"Crypto is our defense against the trend of digital authoritarianism, maintaining diversity and freedom in the technological world."

For such an Ethereum, what reason do we have to doubt its future? To worry about its potential?
