This was my first mobile phone business hall in Shenzhen in 1995, back then it was still China Telecom, and if you didn't have a Shenzhen household registration, you couldn't apply. There were a bunch of local scalpers at the door, charging 200 yuan to use their identity to apply, then they would give you a photocopy of an ID card, and every year you had to spend another 200 yuan to get some radio certificate;
At that time, making calls in and out of Shenzhen cost 0.5 yuan/minute, and roaming was 1.3 yuan/minute. With the Global Communications plan, if your monthly bill wasn't over 2000 yuan, you wouldn't even be embarrassed to take out your phone;
Later, after the separation of postal services and telecommunications, the divide in telecoms, and the entry of Unicom, roaming fees were gradually eliminated until after 2008, and itemized billing began—every industry needs competition!
In 2001, the verification of identity became strict. I wanted to change my household registration, but needed the original ID card of the account holder. The local person who helped me apply for the number that year was nowhere to be found, even searching for Chen Dexing was useless. Later, Mr. Chen said, why go through all this trouble? I'll pick a good number for you; you won’t need the old one anymore. I’ve been using this number until today!
