Recently, the children's English learning has also given me a deeper shock and inspiration regarding language learning. Indeed, many things require you to understand the underlying logic clearly before you can do them well.
This is akin to: I need to understand how blood sugar affects the body's structure before I can decide to control my sugar intake; I need to comprehend why we need sleep and the structure of the brain before I can create a better sleeping environment.
Underlying logic > Actionability > Result!
Similarly, most of us struggle to learn English, or children find learning English somewhat painful primarily because we have not grasped the underlying logic of English learning. From a young age, we have been confused by the English logic of our educational system, mistakenly treating English as a subject or knowledge, rather than a skill.
Recently, I changed my child’s English learning method to use animated shows without subtitles and input to build a language environment. Therefore, I also wrote this yesterday: language is not something that can be studied, but something that is used.
I now have a profound understanding: language ability is essentially the ability to predict probabilities = a large amount of comprehensible input + forced output + immediate feedback + high-frequency repetition + a small amount of explicit knowledge to accelerate understanding.
The most powerful treasure for truly mastering English: input + output + feedback + high-frequency contextual repetition + no native language fallback!
So recently, I will try some new methods regarding the English learning approaches for both my child and myself, and I will document them here.
