Today I happened to chat with some mining friends, and the current situation is that the cost of Bitcoin from new machines arriving in 2025, based on the current electricity price (0.3 CNY), is about 44,000 USD. Adding in the depreciation over two years, the cost of each $BTC is roughly around 67,000 USD, not counting financing and operational costs.
Operational costs vary; it could add around 5,000 USD on the higher side or a few hundred dollars on the lower side. Financing costs are even harder to calculate. Overall, the total cost is generally around 70,000 USD. Of course, this is just for the machines of 2025, while the machines from 2026 will have a lower average cost now.
However, there are indeed many miners still mining, primarily because they see mining as a kind of investment with an annualized return of around 10%.
Nowadays, many miners head to Africa for lower costs, but ironically, places with lower costs tend to have higher risks.
