This morning's Federal Reserve press conference is very likely to be Powell's last time standing in front as the Federal Reserve Chair.

Powell's term will end on May 15, and the next FOMC meeting will be held on June 16-17. This means that if Kevin Warsh can complete his Senate confirmation and officially take office before the June meeting, then this April press conference is likely to be Powell's last press conference of his era.

Currently, the odds of Warsh taking over are already not low. The Senate Banking Committee has already passed Warsh's nomination by a vote of 13:11 and sent the nomination to the full Senate for a vote, which is expected to take place during the week of May 11. If this timeline proceeds smoothly, Warsh will have the opportunity to complete the transition before Powell's term ends on May 15.

Of course, if Warsh's confirmation process is delayed, or if he still has not officially taken office before the June meeting, then Powell may continue to preside over the next meeting in an acting chair capacity.

Although Powell may no longer be the chair, he does not plan to leave the Federal Reserve immediately. He has stated that he will remain on the Federal Reserve Board for a period of time after his term ends, but will not play the role of a shadow chair.

Trump's comment on this was: "Powell wants to stay at the Federal Reserve because he can't find a job elsewhere."
