PANews, May 2 news, according to Decrypt, the Minnesota State Legislature passed a bill that prohibits websites and applications from providing AI tools capable of generating realistic fake nude images of identifiable individuals, which has been sent to Governor Tim Walz for signing. The bill requires platforms not to allow users to use or act on behalf of users to use “nudity” type generation tools, and related service advertisements and promotions are also prohibited. Victims can sue operators for actual damages and receive up to triple compensation and punitive damages; the state attorney general can impose civil fines of up to 500,000 dollars for each violation, with the fines going to support services for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse. If signed, the new law will take effect on August 1 and will only apply to newly occurring cases thereafter.
