Odaily Planet Daily reports that ZKsync has announced it will officially discontinue ZKsync Lite on May 4, at which time it will stop block production and permanently freeze the final state of the network. ZKsync Lite was launched in June 2020 under the name ZKsync 1.0, regarded as Ethereum's first zero-knowledge proof rollup, but it does not support smart contract functionality. Matter Labs ceased development of Lite in March 2023 after launching the zkEVM ZKsync Era, which supports arbitrary smart contracts.

The team stated that this discontinuation will not affect Era and other chains built on the ZK Stack framework, and a read-only API will be retained for at least one year post-closure to support data access. Users are advised to withdraw assets before May 4; unwithdrawn funds will still be accessible thereafter.

According to L2BEAT data, approximately 33.9 million USD in assets currently remain on ZKsync Lite through standardized bridging, including around 24.9 million USD in stablecoins, approximately 8.4 million USD in ETH and derivatives, around 313,000 USD in BTC and derivatives, and about 231,000 USD in other assets.

Roundhill has submitted updated documents to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission with the intention of making its six prediction market ETFs effective on May 5, designed around contracts related to the U.S. presidential and congressional elections.
