According to POLITICO, the Polish cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto is embroiled in a scandal involving regulations, political donations, and allegations of connections to Russian funding. The exchange's CEO Przemysław Kral previously revealed that the company has a wallet containing approximately 4,500 BTC, valued at about $330 million, but due to the previous leader Sylwester Suszek not transferring the private keys during the handover in 2021 and having been missing for several years, the company currently cannot access the wallet assets.
According to previous reports by AP, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk accused Zondacrypto of being supported by "Russian funding" and of having previously funded politicians associated with the former nationalist conservative government of Poland and the CPAC event held in Poland in 2025. Tusk stated that the company's funding is linked to Russian organized crime and intelligence agencies. Zondacrypto has denied speculation about misappropriating customer funds and stated that it is cooperating with Polish authorities.
The incident is also intertwined with the controversy over the Polish cryptocurrency regulatory bill. Polish President Karol Nawrocki has vetoed the cryptocurrency asset market regulation bill twice, while the government claims that the bill aims to implement the EU MiCA rules and strengthen regulation of the cryptocurrency market. The Polish parliament has previously failed to overturn the president's veto.
