Petro proposed that cities such as Barranquilla, Santa Marta, and Riohacha could build mining facilities, and suggested that Colombia's largest indigenous community, Wayúu, become a co-owner of the project. Petro's presidential term will end in August, and he will not participate in the presidential election on May 31.
Paraguay has become the fourth largest Bitcoin mining country by utilizing hydroelectric power from the Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant, accounting for 4.3% of the total network hash power. A World Bank report shows that 75% of Colombia's electricity comes from renewable energy, which is more than twice the global average.
