The U.S. envoy condemns Iran's practice of collective punishment, prompting a United Nations draft resolution to focus on the issues of mines and tolls in the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Walters stated that Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz violates the Law of the Sea and international law.

Walters condemned reports that Iran is establishing a Persian Gulf Strait Management Bureau, intending to impose tolls on ships passing through the waterway, and called the act of dispersing seafarers in the Strait "a calculated act of pressure."

"Imposing collective punishment on the entire world in an attempt to resolve some dispute is unacceptable, it is immoral, and it is also illegal under international law," he said.

Additionally, the U.S. is drafting a new United Nations Security Council resolution in collaboration with Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, calling for Iran to cease attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and stop attempts to impose tolls.
