The current fighting between the United States and Iran is relatively restrained, with both sides avoiding escalation. However, from a third-party perspective, I believe Iran should be struck. If it weren't for Iran's insistence on charging tolls in the Strait of Hormuz, this round of war would not have occurred at all, and Iran's desire to impose tolls is inherently illegal.
In the United States, there is still a lack of support for striking Iran, mainly due to high oil prices, which have returned to $4. This has already caused a headache for the Republican Party. However, at this stage, Iran needs to relinquish its control over the Strait of Hormuz. It may truly require the United States to severely damage or frighten Iran before they will back down.
However, I am also concerned that a theocratic state might genuinely dare to fight to the last soldier. If it comes to a war of attrition, Iran will certainly not be able to outlast the United States. As long as the U.S. depletes Iran's maritime forces and re-establishes protection over the Strait of Hormuz, it should be liberated, and then it will have little to do with oil.
