Are stock tokens a trend or just a flash in the pan? | Q&A

1. "Meme volatility is high, people who buy stocks won't want to buy this, relying on buying meme coins to short it isn't realistic; it's better to short with large funds directly, there's no need to layer it unnecessarily. Stock on-chain provides a lot of convenience, but conversely using on-chain assets like meme to buy stocks is actually meaningless. If we talk about enhancing liquidity, how much can it actually improve?"

This was a comment from a reader at the end of the article "PONS is Hot: Robinhood's First Launchpad, Conveniently Tying MEME and Stocks Together" on August 31.

I agree with some points in this comment, and I've had doubts about some phenomena mentioned. Some of these doubts have been proven by the market, but some are still unclear.

"Meme volatility is high, people who buy stocks won't want to buy this," this point is applicable at least to me.

I currently have some stock tokens, but I didn't buy them on Robinhood. I purely bought them out of curiosity at first and just tossed them aside for a long time without taking care of them.

Even now, with such lively trading on Robinhood, I subconsciously feel that these on-chain things are more like "coins" than "stocks."

I feel no resemblance to viewing stocks in a brokerage account when looking at these stock tokens.

I wonder how many people feel the same way as I do?

"Relying on buying meme coin stocks to short isn't realistic; it's better to short with large funds directly, there's no need to layer it unnecessarily." This point is still proving successful in some cases in the market, and I've shared some in the article.

This is something I hadn't thought of before. However, I think such cases need to become common practice rather than exceptions; relying solely on these individual cases isn't enough, the power is still too weak. So I continue to observe their progress.

"Stock on-chain provides a lot of convenience, but conversely using on-chain assets like meme to buy stocks is actually meaningless. If we talk about enhancing liquidity, how much can it actually improve?" This point is similar; it depends on whether it can develop into a routine and trend.

If it can develop into a routine, when liquidity accumulates to a certain level, achieving a qualitative change from quantitative change could really become a track, impacting the real stock market. Otherwise, it would just be a fleeting moment, merely an emotional release for a period of time. So I am also continuously observing.

From my personal preferences and interests, I still prefer purely on-chain assets, especially those on native chains.

I always feel that things from the real world that are indirectly put on-chain have a centralized force that extends that invisible, oppressive hand into it.

I even prefer decentralized stablecoins over stablecoins, let alone these assets.

But reality is awkward: at least so far, there are purely on-chain things, but they haven't developed a strong enough system and large enough power, and they're not as good as these RWA assets from the real world, so I can only watch the development of stock tokens as a secondary option.

2. I saw that A-shares can already be bought on the pancake trading platform; could this be a trend?

It’s hard to determine whether this is a trend, but I think the derivative trading of A-shares in markets without domestic regulation is not a good thing, especially for participants from within the country. The policy and legal risks that participants bear are too great.

When ICOs were banned domestically, there were reports that there were some things related to the domestic securities market among them.

Therefore, I suggest that for ordinary citizens, it's better to avoid these overseas things related to A-shares if possible. If you want to buy A-shares, go through a legitimate domestic brokerage platform; do not touch anything related to A-shares issued overseas by non-governmental institutions.

This kind of risk cannot be taken.
